Blackthorn, Songbook, Allotment gig

Blackthorn Triumph!

First off, congrats to all of you who played the Blackthorn Festival, Brian did a fantastic job of organising and apparently the set went down very well indeed! Apparently, we also have an invite for next year as well. Hopefully there will some photos to share soon as well.

Thanks to those that came along to Uke up yesterday, we went through a fair few songs that we’d not played for ages, some with better results than others, but practice makes perfect anyhow…

Huge Songbook V2!

All the changes from Sunday are now included in the draft version of the Huge Songbook V2
We do need your help to proof read (play?) the songs we haven’t covered yet so that we can get as many mistakes as possible out before we get some hard copies done.

In the Draft copy of the songbook anything that we “know” to be correct is marked in green in the Contents page. Anything that is still in black needs someone (preferably other than Ed) to play through it and point out any errors. Once you have done this, please either email LevyUkeUp@gmail.com or message Ed on Facebook , or drop a comment in the Levy Uke Up group to let us know if any songs you’ve been through need changing, or just as importantly, they’re fine and dandy as is…

The sooner we can get this done, the sooner we can get these printed for everyone that wants one. Looks like we’ll order a run of 20 when ready, that should cover everyone that wants one and leave us with a few spare for the future. That way, they’ll be around £11ish (tbc!) for full colour, bound books.

Allotment Show!

As was mentioned a little while ago, we’ve been asked to play at the Highfield Allotment Society show on Saturday 6th September, we need to get a set list together and get practising as soon as as this will creep up on us really quickly!

Please get us your suggestions for favourite tunes if you want them to be included in the set list.

We should have some suggestions by next Uke Up, I’d like to have something pretty concrete that we can practise by the end of the next Uke Up if possible!

Suggestions as always by email or Facebook…

Uke-up tomorrow

Don’t forget, it’s Uke Up tomorrow, 7pm at The Kingsway as per usual! (Unfortunately clashing with the World Cup Final)

We’ll be working from the new Huge Songbook, (Huge Songbook V2 Draft which has all of the corrections from last uke up)

We’ll probably focus on songs for the Blackthorn festival set.

Speaking of which, if anybody else fancies taking part let us or Brian know (he needs to provide names so participants can get their Access All Areas passes!!!).

See you all tomorrow!

Uke-up live and direct @ Blackthorn Festival confirmed!

Brian has confirmed that we are on for performing at the http://www.blackthornmusicfestival.co.uk on 26th July.

We need to give names of the people performing (to get passes on the gate). So could anyone who’s up for performing let us know (at levyukeup@gmail.com)

Also a special performers deal should be available for anyone wishing to camp at the festival over the week-end.

Gutted I can’t make it.

Uke-up tomorrow

Don’t forget, it’s Uke Up tomorrow, 7pm at The Kingsway as per usual!

We’ll be working from the new Huge Songbook, if you have something electronic to view it on (or are planning to print and haven’t yet…). you might want to get hold of the Huge Songbook V2 Draft which has all of the corrections from last uke up…

Considering we have the offer of playing at the Blackthorn Music Festival on the 26th of July, we’ll be wanting to see who can get involved. Unfortunately, neither Ed or myself can make it on the day, doesn’t mean we can’t put on a good show though!

(Also, just noticed that the newly re-formed A Witness are playing as well - making it even more gutting that I can’t make it)

We’ll likely be sticking to the content of the favourites book, so if you don’t have a copy of the Huge book yet in whichever form, bring the favourites at least!

See you all tomorrow!

New potential festival gig - Blackthorn Music Festival- 26th July

Hi,

We’ve been offered yet another gig (thanks to Brian J.), and it sounds like a biggie!

We’ve been asked to play the acoustic stage at the Blackthorn Music Festival at Etherow Country Park in Compstall, Stockporton Saturday the 26th July.

Our slot would be around the 4:30 - 6pm at a time to suit us.

The festival is a ‘Glastonbury’ type festival with multiple stages and entertainment and camping areas. The festival is expected to have 2000 people there. Other bands that are playing include 90’s group Dodgy amongst others.

You can see more at http://www.blackthornmusicfestival.co.uk

Unfortunately I’m away that weekend but I’m sure we can round up enough volunteers and find someone to co-ordinate on the day.

It’s only 4 weeks away but perhaps we could do a set from our Greatest Hits as that worked well at the street party, and maybe fit
in another practice or two?

Thanks again to Brian for this opportunity (apologies for blatantly stealing the contents of your FB post)

Levy Uke-up tonight - big new songbook

Sorry for the late post - Levy-uke is on as usual tonight - same place same time (Kingsway 7pm).

And we have a big new songbook; actually a compendium of all our existing books, divided up into easy, middling and hard and with extra timing info. Enjoy.

Levy Uke-up at Lev-stock 21st June

Hello!

We have been asked to play at Lev-Stock at the Klondyke on Saturday 21st June.

Lev-Stock

Looks like it should be a good evening.

We would probably play a 20-30 minute set at around 9.30.

We could play a selection from the Greatest Hits, or, seeing as it’s the Summer Solstice we could pick some from the Summer Song-book (my suggestion of a Hawkwind set for the Solstice was not well received).

So who’s up for it?

Unfortunately I’m double booked that evening (so no BASS vibrations) and Ed’s in transit from the States so we’ll also need a volunteer to take help charge of things on the evening.

We can discuss further on Sunday.

BTW had a blast at today’s Street Party performance.
